5 days. 15 participants. Incountable dose of creativity. We are proud to present you a few afterthoughts on the workshop CREATIVITY IS FUN! co-organized by InnoGenerator.pl

Great people, increadible diversity and well-built programme evoked the creative potential and facilitated the process of learning and developing creative skills. Tomasz and Krzysztof led the training on creativity and innovation for the group of 15 participants from Spain, Finland, Bulgaria, Turkey, Italy, Latvia and Poland. The workshop took place in Poznan, 9-13 November 2009, was organized by CDF Poznań with the coorporation of InnoGenerator.pl and led in English – which is not a surprise when you are reading this article in English;)

After teambuilding and familiarizing people with eachother and the subject, we passed through the patterns of brain functioning, including schemes, automatisms, perceptive and memory errors and stereotypes. This was done to explain the obstacles in creative thinking. It is clear that we have to know the source of our limits to be able to jump over them.

And we jumped, after all. The key to learn patterns of creative behavior (yes! creative behaviour also need some patterns and structure!) were techniques. We focused on the process of creative thinking mainly, not on the result aspect. We also assumed that during the training one has to focus not on the person (features of creativity) but exactly on the process of reaching creative goals, especially when we had participants from different countries, with different professions, experiences and expectations.

We created a bunch of cases which the participants have been working on using different methods, including brainstorming, brainwriting, mental provocation, mindmapping and other. The participants agreed that all techniques have pros and cons. Nevertheless, the most involving, fruitful and surprising technique was – according to participants – mental provocation. They were astonished with shocking effects created by themselves while analyzing the particular problem and attacking parts of it from the „contrary” point of view.

We also discussed the use of creativity on innovation. Additionally, we have been also working on legal problems concerning innovation and creativity, especially the means of protection creative ideas by law, including copyright, patents, trademarks and design.

We would like to emphasise the great impact of the participants on the final result of the workshop. The key task in the beginning was to open the atmosphere of working and integrate participants. After that all of them brought great ideas and feedback to the workshop. What is worth saying – we, as trainers – also have learned a lot from participants and experienced the great influence of the group process on creativity. Thank you for that!
